又稱「十八尊者」,為釋迦牟尼佛的得道弟子,原為十六位,隨佛教東傳後增加二位,是依照佛的教導修習四聖諦,脫離生死輪迴而達到涅槃的聖者,其形象在各地寺廟略有不同。龍山寺則將十八羅漢與山神、土地神、四海龍王並祀。
They are also called the “Eighteen Venerable Sages” since they are Gautama Buddha’s enlightened disciples. Originally, there were only sixteen of them. Later on, with the spread of Buddhism to the east, two more were added. The sages practiced the four noble truths following the Buddha’s instructions, so that they could enter the realm of nirvana, i.e. break away from the wheel of fortune of life and death. They take different forms and shapes in different temples. In the Lungshan Temple, they are worshipped along with the Mountain God, Land God and Dragon Kings from the Four Seas.

‘십팔존자(十八尊者)’라 불리기도 하며, 석가모니의 득도한 제자입니다. 원래는 열여섯 분이었는데, 불교가 동쪽으로 전해지면서 두 분이 늘었습니다. 부처의 가르침인 사성제(四聖諦)를 연마해 생사의 윤회를 벗어나 열반에 이른 성자로, 그 모습은 각지의 사원마다 조금씩 다릅니다. 룽산사에서는 십팔나한과산신, 토지신, 사해 용왕을 함께 모시고 있습니다.
